The fortifications, finished in the mid-15C, have remained almost intact. The inner courtyard, with its covered rampart walk, is preceded by an outer courtyard which opens onto a wide dry moat. Sixty-seven defensive towers remain, including four sturdy 16C towers up to 6m/20ft thick. A visit offers the opportunity for lovely views.
