The castle, built in 1090, has an unusual architectural feature - the double chapel added in the late 12C. During services the common people sat downstairs, while the nobility sat on the floor above. The ornamentation, such as the gilded historiated capitals, reflects the styles in vogue in the Lower Rhine region at the time. The lodge contains some beautifully furnished rooms, including the Princely room.
