The focal point of this fine museum located in a Baroque edifice is the exhibition of medieval art from Thuringia, which includes some superb altarpieces and a Pietà by the Master of St Severinus' sarcophagus. In the gallery, works by 18C and 19C German landscape artists are displayed. Be sure to see the mural by Erich Heckel, painter and co-founder of the Expressionist Die Brücke movement.
