The oldest parts of the castle date from the 13C, however it was remodelled in subsequent centuries. It is surrounded by deep ditches. As part of the visit, you will explore the underground sections of the early building. On the ground floor, an archaeological museum displays a collection of Egyptian canopic jars. Upstairs, the surprisingly impressive hunting museum has almost 1 500 exhibits, most of which are from Portugal's former African colonies.
