The Museu Afro-Brasil, located in an elegant, airy building, was founded on the initiative of artist Emanoel Araujo, who, over a period of twenty years, gathered a fantastic collection of 5 000 pieces related to Brazil's African heritage. The diversity of the exhibition highlights the importance of African culture in Brazil: paintings, sculpture, photos, candomblé costumes, jewellery and crafts, all of which are beautifully displayed.
