It is said that as Brigham Young and his party crested the Wasatch Range in 1847, Young gazed upon Salt Lake Valley and declared, "This is the place." On the centennial of the arrival of the Mormons, This Is The Place Monument was erected in tribute to the voyage from Illinois along the 1,300mi Mormon Pioneer National Historic Trail. The Mormon pioneer lifestyle (c.1847-69) is re-enacted in the Heritage Village.
