The road climbs as it leaves behind the valley and the villages of Saint-Martin and Venanson. Just before the tunnel, the views are particularly beautiful, with, to the left, the Vésubie valley, Saint-Martin and the Vallon de la Madone, and, still further left, the mountain cirque of Le Boréon.
