The City Art Gallery is housed in a 19C neoclassical building. Set in a garden dotted with contemporary sculptures, the museum presents a fairly comprehensive panorama of modern and contemporary Bulgarian art. Among those represented are icon artist Stanislav Dospevski, landscape painter Atanas Mihov (1880-1975), Vladimir Dimitrov "Majstora" (1882-1960), David Perec (1906-1982), Zlatju Bojadžiev (Siesta, 1971), Vasil Barakov (1902-91) and Valcan Petrov who uses a highly personal style to perpetuate the icon painting tradition.
