The first edifice, of which the stone vestibule with a painted wooden ceiling remains, dates from the 14C. The city was run by five consuls chosen from the three "hands" or social classes of the population. The bronze arms of the façade apparently symbolised these hands, unless they were simply torch holders. There is a bronze by Maillol (La Méditerranée) in the arcaded courtyard. Inside, the Wedding Hall sports a handsome 15C coffered ceiling.
