This city showpiece, a mid-1960s building, is devoted to the artistic, human and natural history of California. The themes are laid out on separate floors: the 3rd level celebrates past and contemporary art, the 2nd level chronicles the history of the state through its different populations and the ground-floor showcases reconstitutions of the bay's and Yosemite Park's ecosystems. The rambling park is dotted with contemporary sculpture.
