The church was destroyed by a landslide in 1757. The local population worked tirelessly to ensure its rapid reconstruction opposite its original site. The doorway of the main façade is in fact the doorway to the palace of the La Via family who donated the new church. The interior contains a large six-tiered icon in marble, and Charles V's throne, on which the Emperor rested his august posterior during a visit in 1535.
