The west stone and brick facade of this castle overlooks the park. The Dames and Horloge towers are all that remain of the Renaissance edifice rebuilt from 1475 to 1495. The Gothic cloisters sport some lovely plates made out of 16C Italian earthenware and in the Main Hall, a portrait of Gilles de Montmorency-Laval is said to have inspired Charles Perrault's villain, Blue Beard. Keep a look out for the riding school and its horse-drawn carriages, hidden away in the greenery.
