The ramparts of Massa were partially demolished in the 14C by the Sienese who rebuilt them a few years later. This explains the name given to this five-towered fortress, which splits the town into two parts linked by the Porta alla Silici. Its 22m arch gives access to the Torre del Candeliere, the last vestige of an earlier fortress (1228)
