The appealing working-class Malasaña district stretches out to the north of Gran Vía. In recent years, it has been adopted by a young, cosmopolitan crowd, but its character has remained intact: steep, narrow lanes, windows with balconies and façades decked out with colourful flowers. During the day, Malasaña has the quiet feel of a village. When night falls, the plazas and streets fill up with fun-loving crowds as they hop from bar to bar.
