The City of London is situated on the north side of the River Thames, and lies within the old London Wall (vestiges remain) which delineated the Roman and medieval settlement. One of the world's leading financial districts, the area is home to stunning feats of modern architecture as well as historic buildings, and a good selection of bars, restaurants and trendy shops. There are fine views of the City from the top of the dome of St Paul's Cathedral.
