The outline of Velké námestí (Main Square) forms a trapezium in the heart of historic Králové. Built on land slightly higher than the floodable plain of the Elba, it stands in the heart of a core of beautiful old town houses, some of which date back to the Middle Ages. It is also home to the town's historic buildings, a tribute to its long history and a reminder in particular of its royal status (Králové) as dowry of the queens of Bohemia.
