The fortifications protected the city from attacks by sea. They form a long terrace lined with battlements, where a row of bronze cannons still aim out to sea: even if they are harmless today, the sight of the Skala de la Kasbah remains impressive. From the terrace of the northern bastion you get the best view of the fortifications, continued in the distance by the Skala du Port, the row of rocky islands awash with foam, and the coast of Cape Sim in the background.
