Qenko is an extraordinary example of architecture and sculpture incorporated into solid rock. Steps, niches, tanks and tunnels are hewn out of a large limestone rock. There are many surprises in store for visitors, from the animal figures, small canals, the cave, the amphitheatre and the seated puma. The arrangement of the ruins might symbolise the three worlds of Andean cosmology: the world of the gods at the top, of humans at esplanade level and of the dead in the underground cave.
