For safety reasons, tourists are advised to avoid this region. During the earthquake of 1875, Cúcuta's cathedral was almost entirely destroyed. Overlooking the Parque de Santander, its three main doors are said to represent the different phases of the building's history. Inside are some remarkable oil paintings by Salvador Moreno (1874-1953).
