The Monumental Axis comes to an end on the east side of Praça dos Três Poderes. Three buildings devoted respectively to the executive (the Palácio do Planalto), the legislative (the Congresso Nacional, actually a triptych of buildings) and the judiciary (the Supremo Tribunal Federal) form the city's most emblematic architectural ensemble, with statues by Bruno Giorgi and Alfredo Ceschiatti adding to the overall effect. The marble building of the Museu da Cidade and a striking pointed pillar created by the Modernist Niemeyer add the finishing touches.
