Vincent Van Gogh died in Auvers-sur-Oise in 1890 and is buried in the cemetery here. Theo, his brother and confidant, who died five months after him, is buried nearby. Two modest stone steles standing by the cemetery's left wall indicate the place where the two are buried. Other artists, such as Norbert Goeneutte, Eugène Mürer, Léonide Bourges and the Venezuelan painter Emilio Boggio, are also buried here.
