Initiated in 1976, this colourful 4ha/10-acre development has transformed Toronto's previously neglected lakeshore into an attractive mix of marinas, outdoor cafes, antiques and crafts markets, sleek condominiums and pleasant miniparks. A focal point of the city's cultural life, especially in summer, Harbourfront is also the scene of year-round recreational, educational and commercial activities in the renovated warehouses as well as outdoors. Ice-skating is a popular winter pastime at the centre's rink overlooking the water.
