Love, religion, football and music: everything that has fed the imagination and passion of Brazilians has found expression in the popular arts. The Museu do Folclore Edison Carneiro brings together touching works that are often brightly coloured and occasionally rather astonishing. The museum's collection, which contains pieces originating from all over Brazil, is beautifully presented. Woodwork, earthenware, fabrics... the imagination of the craftsmen knows no bounds. One room has a recorded commentary on the candomblé and maracatu costumes on display.
