Over 60% of the Rila Nature Park, created in 1992, is covered by Rila forest. Conifers and beeches thrive in this peaceful setting, many parts of which are at an altitude of over 2,000m. Waymarked footpaths and trails have been created, but walkers should contact specialised organisations beforehand, because finding one's way in the park isn't easy.
