A sinopia, what's that? It is the sketch for a fresco, traced on a first coat of plaster using reddish brown earth coming from Sinope. While removing the frescoes from their backing to restore them after the bombings of 1944, these sinopias were discovered. These gigantic marvellous designs, drafts of frescoes that one can find at Camposanto, are on display in an old hospital, such that you can see them from several different points of view.
