Although Rue Mouffetard is historically synonymous with penniless students and poverty-stricken writers, today it is lined in bistros, restaurants and snack bars. Parisians and tourists come from afar to its street market and to soak up its atmosphere, which is sadly disappearing. This ancient road, nicknamed la Mouff' by the locals, has preserved many ancient shop signs (A la bonne source) and offers glimpses of narrow passageways (Passage des Postes n°104, des Patriarches, n°101).
