In the heart of Towada-Hachimantai National Park, a trail goes through the valley of the Oirase River (2hr 40min, 8km/5mi) from Ishigedo to Nenokuchi, skirting Lake Towada. The magnificent walk is a favourite with the Japanese who come here armed with easels and brushes. Kumoi and Choshi waterfalls (5.6 tons of water/second) are truly spectacular.
