The Ladies of Llangollen undertook, as of 1780, to transform the humble cottage where they had taken refuge into this eccentric black and white building, steeped in the neo-Gothic taste of the time, with quite extraordinary carved oak panelling. During their almost 50 years here, they wrote an abundance of correspondence in the library. Working on the garden was also a great passion of theirs.
