This unspoiled nature reserve in the Vercors regional park ranges in altitude from 1,000m to 2,300m and covers 17,000ha. It is dotted with limestone pavements and grottoes where water is scarce. Its two highest peaks are the Grand Veymont (2,341m) and the iconic Mt Aiguille (2,086m). The reserve is home to black grouse, mountain hare, huge numbers of chamois, Alpine ibex and, recently, Griffon vultures.
