With its 1 200 animals housed in 40ha of land, Australia Zoo is the best wildlife park in the country. Kangaroos, possums, Tasmanian devils, crocodiles and koalas rub shoulders with elephants, tigers, rhinos and lemurs. The zoo owes its success to animal rights activist and wildlife documentary presenter Steve Irwin, aka the Crocodile Hunter. There is plenty to do: visitors can go on camel rides, have their pictures taken with the animals, and take in free shows.
