Here, on a quiet, 135ha campus along the Severn River and College Creek, midshipmen study to become officers in the US Navy and Marine Corps. The guided tour of the Yard, the academy's nickname, includes Bancroft Hall: this Baroque building (1906) covers almost 11ha and boasts 8km of corridors. Be sure to see the US Navy Chapel (1908, Ernest Flagg), the superb gilded dome of which was modelled on Paris's Hôtel des Invalides.
